In Blizzard's 3rd Quarter Conference Call they confirmed that there will be an expansion for Diablo 3. As it is common for Blizzard, they did not announce any specific date for this expansion.
Don't expect it to be any earlier than late 2013. It may even be released in 2014; there is really no telling when it will be done. Diablo 3 still does not have PvP, which was originally promised in the May 2012 release date of Diablo 3. Now players, including myself, are waiting for a patch that will finally allow us to battle against one another.
Patch 1.0.5 brought some players back with the Ubers, Monster Power and Legendary Hellfire Ring. However the game is still basically Act 3 grinding, hoping to get a "Good" Legendary.
There is still no word on when the PvP patch will be released. Maybe it will be a Christmas present for all us D3 players. Only time will tell...
